Can online education be equalled to conventional classroom education?
Can online education be equalled to conventional classroom education?
Every controversial statement has pros and cons.
But, I believe that online education can benefit students more than the traditional way of classroom education.
1) Geography doesn't bound you
Advancements in technology have made education more accessible than ever. No matter where you live, the entire educational world could be on your palm if you have access to the internet.
The most prestigious schools like MIT, Harvard and even research institutions like ISRO are offering online courses for interested students! If such prestigious institutes believe it to be a better way, then it has to be!
Today, non-credit MOOCs are being offered. MOOC simply refers to Massive open online course. They are trying to digitalise everyone. offering top courses free of cost is an initiative that could revolutionise the education industry.
It seemed impossible a decade ago that schools would provide all their education for a minimal to no cost. But today, online learning has made it possible.
2) More engaging
Most people will think that classroom learning is more engaging as compared to online learning as the students are present physically. Well, I believe if a kid joins an online course, it is out of his/her interests.
As opposed to this, a student can be physically present in a classroom but mentally absent
3) More control over the schedule
Issues like Absenteeism and scheduling conflicts are virtually removed from online learning. Usually, online learning session includes modules pre-recorded by teachers and are saved in a stock where students can view them later at their own time. This flexibility interests more students to join an online programme. Although some programs may require participation in online lectures at certain times, those lectures are usually saved and archived for later use by students who fail to attend the lecture at the prescribed time.
4) No more introverts
Many students are unable to participate in classroom activities because they are either too conscious or introverts. Online classes are a blessing for those learners who feel afraid to speak or raise their issues in a physical classroom. They may feel braver to speak their mind out when they cannot be seen. Moreover, learners with a physical disability too can participate in learning without having to travel long distances to attend.
Summing up, while there are differences between physical and online learning, but if in the hands of an experienced teacher and meticulous students, both delivery methods can be used to achieve the same goals.
Well both ways seem to be equally good. But in online class a student can be virtaully present but totally absent as well, just like a physical classroom. And secondly, online classes might help introverts to speak up, but it won't help in the long run. That's my opinion but I agree with yours too... So great going. Keep it up. :)
ReplyDelete1) i did consider this point while writing but if the kid had to be virtually absent, he wouldnt have possibly joined in the first place.
Delete2)thats true. But still, it would help them get rid of their fear in the first place
Most of us at some instances have been absent minded even after being physically present in a class full of students, books and teacher. It is just not possible to concentrate when everything is virtual. Distractions are just inevitable.
